The Steven Tyler Ethnicity Question - Get To Know His Roots

Steven Tyler, aka the “Demon of Screamin’” is known for his powerful vocals and lately his crazy comments and moments on American Idol. He has been around for what seems like forever, but where did he come from? What are the origins of his family tree?
Everyone comes from somewhere, and knowing the past and where we come from makes us who we are and gives us a sense of self. Steven Tyler realized that early on and embraced his heritage. He knows who he is and where he comes from, but do you? What exactly is the answer to the Steven Tyler ethnicity question?

Steven Tyler Ethnicity: The Roots

Let’s go back a few generations: Steven Tyler’s paternal grandfather was born in southern Italy, in a region called Cotronol, Calabria. His other paternal ancestors are from Germany. His maternal grandfather on his mother’s side was from Poland and Russia. Since they kept changing the borders, he claimed both nationalities.

At one point, he apparently got fed up with the family name, although no one really knows the reason why. He came to America in WWI, and sometime between Europe and Ellis Island, he changed his surname from Czarnyszewicz to Blancha. Interestingly, Czarny in Polish means black -- and Blancha means white. He seems to have changed his name from black to white.

His other maternal ancestors are Ukranian, Russian and English. He also has Cherokee blood running through his veins – an ethnic mix that truly renders Tyler a modern day American.

Steven Tyler’s musical roots can also be traced through his family tree. Music seems to be what brought his paternal grandparents together. His grandmother, Constance, was a music teacher and his grandfather, Giovanni was a musician with his own band.

He was something of a mandolin prodigy, and worked with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Naples. He also managed his little brother’s music career. Pasquale Tallarico was a teen idol before teen idols existed, and also something of a bad boy, leaving his 17-year-old wife when he became famous.

His father, Victor Tallarico, was a concert pianist and led the Vic Tallarico orchestra for many years. Steven says he grew under his father’s piano, and attributes his emotional attachment to music to this “piano upbringing.” Obviously, the musical apple does not fall far from the tree.

Steven Tyler Ethnicity: Shared Heritage

He shares his ethnical heritage with many other celebrities, including the Jonas Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Johnny Depp, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carell, Taylor Swift, Kevin Costner, and Rebecca Gayheart, among others.

Steven Tyler Ethnicity: Early Life

Steven Tyler was born Steven Tallarico in New York City, New York in March of 1948. His mother was a receptionist and his father a pianist. He and his family later moved to the Yonkers, where he grew up and started playing music at an early age.

Given this heritage and musical upbringing, it’s no surprise that
Steven Tyler became a rock legend in his own right. The music that runs through his veins is just as rich as his mixed heritage. The rest, as they say, is history.
